Donkey Kong Country’s detailed visuals and graphics made this game a big hit, competing with the contemporary video games in 1994. At the time Donkey Kong Country was the most realistic looking games. The great reviews from gamers across the world had consumers wanting more. As a result Nintendo and Rareware produced many sequels in the next few years. After DKC, the same game was created for the Gameboy called the Donkey Kong Land. This version was also a big success. Donkey Kong Country 2 and 3 both kept the legacy. DKC 2 and 3, introduced new characters to the Kong family. Characters in the new DKC 2 and 3 included Diddy Kong (who was already introduced in the original DKC), Dixie Kong, and Kiddy Kong. Nintendo also created all these games for the Gameboy.

Nintendo created the Bongos as the controller in a series of new DK games. The Donkey Konga and Donkey Kong Jungle belts were all spin-offs of the original. A decade later Nintendo created the game Donkey Kong Country Returns for the Wii. This game brought back all of the old part as well as new part of the Donkey Kong Country Series. This new series of DKC for the Wii had great receptions.
